What would you say to someone who might be a little scared to try creating?

I would say to just have a go, play and discover! What’s the worst that could happen, you end up with a bit of a mess or a masterpiece! Sometimes the best work is born from an accident!

How did you discover your inner artist? Was it a gradual process or a surprise discovery?

I’ve always been interested in art, I was always drawing, crafting, and colouring as a kid. So, there was no surprise when I became an artist! I did however rediscover my inner artist during the covid lockdowns, as I had more time to focus on my art. During this period, I realised that I had neglected my art practice, so since then I have been determined to keep painting and making art more regularly.

What’s something that you’re proud of, that you don’t often get to talk about?

I’m really proud of opening my own studio and store called The Workshopppery, this had been a goal I’d dreamed of for a long time and this year I was able to achieve that. I am proud to be able to share my art and skills with others while running my own micro business.

What art mediums are your faves?

I love acrylic paint, and I do enjoy using impasto/gel mediums to get some nice juicy texture. Watercolour is my other fav, I love the ability to blend and bleed colours and that it's so easy to transport, I carry a watercolour travel set with me whenever I travel.

How do you tackle art block?

Get out in nature or visit an op shop! Both are endless sources of inspiration for me. Sometimes I also just get the watercolours out and lay down some colour and shapes to get myself working and usually, that is enough to get the creativity flowing.

What would your dream creative space look like?

Ohhh exciting! Ok, a light-filled mid-century designed space with lots and lots of storage for all my art materials! A big table is a must so I can spread out while working. I’d love my space to have a beautiful view of the sea or the mountains and be decorated with lots of colour, cushions and lamps. And lastly, there would have to be a lush bed for my trusty studio companion Blazer my Beaglier doggo!

Who inspires you the most?

Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo and Yayoi Kusama are some of the artists I find most inspirational. I also find talking and sharing with my artist friends very inspiring.

Aside from art, what other hobbies do you enjoy?

I really enjoy being outdoors, camping in my vintage caravan called Franklin, paddle boarding, and spending time with my dogs. I also enjoy being crafty. Lately, I’ve been getting into latch hook; I find it really relaxing and therapeutic.
